Regulatory Updates: New Jersey

Time of Application Law:
Governor Christie recently signed into law S-82. This new law will prevent municipalities from changing zoning regulations in direct response to development applications that are "unwanted" but otherwise comply with zoning. The law will not take effect until May of 2011, giving municipalities one year in which to update their master plans and zoning regulations. A copy of the new law may be viewed here

Red Tape Review Group (RTRG):
The RTRG, under the direction of the Lieutenant Governor, issued its report on April 19, 2010. The report provides very thoughtful suggestions for reforming the complex and time-consuming maze of regulations that have hurt or hindered the state's ability to recruit and retain business and foster new, responsible development projects. The report may be viewed here.
