PS&S Volunteers Helping Camden Grow

NJ Tree Foundation – Volunteering to plant trees in Camden:

A group of 6 PS&S employees from Cherry Hill/Delaware Valley volunteered their time with the NJ Tree Foundation and participated in the Urban Airshed Reforestation Program by planting shade trees in Camden, NJ.

The team from PS&S included:  Jeanne Jorquez, James Jorquez, Vibhuti Bhimani, Marge DellaVecchia, Abbey Greenberg and Max Barksdale.  Working together with the NJ Conservation Foundation, Rutgers University, the Camden Power Corps and neighborhood volunteers, 20’ tall shade trees were planted along 34th Street in Camden.

The planting of these trees helps to improve air quality, manage storm water and provide shade to the area.  Since the program’s inception, over 6,000 trees have been planted along Camden city streets.

The drought in California has been well documented and now better understandings of the challenges ahead are being obtained from new techniques using satellite data. Other places that seemingly have plenty of water such as Puerto Rico are also experiencing significant drought events that have resulted in extended periods of water rationing.

PS&S’s Jerry Frazee Helps Keep Friend’s Memory Alive

Not everyone can turn a terrible tragedy into something that inspires and helps others. But Elizabeth “Liz” Maggio, of Lake Como, and Jerry Frazee, of Manasquan, have done just that. They have turned what used to be a typical road race into something much more: they make sure to keep the memory of Liz Maggio’s sister, the late Gránia Maggio, alive by holding the Lake Como 5K in her honor.

On July 2, 2005, Gránia Maggio, a former Lake Como resident, was struck from behind and killed by a drunk driver in Saratoga Springs, New York, while walking along the road after a Dave Matthews Band concert.

For the past decade, the Lake Como 5K has been run in her memory.
