Linear Inventories
Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor (PS&S) completed a large linear inventory for Hudson County in New Jersey. The project scope was to prepare an implementation plan for the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The goal of this study was to expedite construction completion of a continuous Walkway through the seven Hudson County municipalities which front the Hudson River, in part by identifying "gap" sites or unpassable portions of the Walkway. By utilizing GIS, PS&S was able to create a robust inventory of data for the Walkway and the surrounding areas. The GIS mapping allowed for waterfront properties, permits, and plans affected by the Walkway to be electronically logged and updated. Using the GIS database created, PS&S was able to perform a gap analysis of the waterfront walkway for all of the municipalities along the Hudson River within Hudson County. Each walkway segment was also analyzed by the status of development, the owner/developer, the block/lot, and by linear feet. By mapping this extensive database, public officials were able to efficiently make well-informed decisions, thus enhancing the quality of community life along the waterfront.
