Showboat Hotel/Casino:

Showboat Casino/Hotel

Premier Lite Tower
Atlantic City, New Jersey

Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor (PS&S) provided structural engineering services for the Showboat Premier Lite Tower, a 20-story, 544-room, 340,000 square foot hotel tower situated adjacent to the existing New Orleans Tower directly to the east.

A flat-plate floor system was selected for this project to minimize the floor-to-floor heights in the building. A composite precast concrete/cast-in-place concrete system (Filigree) was used in lieu of a conventional post-tensioned concrete system. This system has the benefit of eliminating forming of the slab soffit (the precast acts as the form). This results in savings in cost and time. This system greatly benefited the overall project schedule. Fewer skilled workers are required to erect this system than conventional structural systems. This was particularly important due to a labor shortage in the Atlantic City area at the time of construction. In addition, the system does not require a specialty contractor for post-tensioning. While the precast portion of the system is prestressed, all in-field reinforcement placements utilized conventional mild reinforcement.

The building was designed for lateral wind and seismic loads in accordance with code requirements. Concrete shear walls and frame action were designed to resist lateral wind and seismic forces.

Foundations consisting of spread and strip footing were utilized for the building. Concrete strengths of up to 7,000 psi were specified to minimize footing depths and dewatering requirements due to the high water table.

PS&S provided geotechnical, civil and structural engineering design services as well as survey and environmental/land use permitting services.
