A. C. REDSHAW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

LOCATION: NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ

CLIENT: NEW JERSEY SCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

MARKET SECTOR: EDUCATION

SIZE: 133,000 SF

THE OPPORTUNITY

The original A. Chester Redshaw Elementary School was demolished to make way for a new expanded school facility. This school was the first New Jersey Schools Development Authority (NJSDA) design-build project to be bid utilizing the NJSDA’s new Kit of Parts prototype model.

THE CHALLENGE

The Hall Construction / PS&S Design-Build Team was challenged to apply strong technical experience and past collaborations on K-12 school projects to win this first of its kind state-of-the-art design-build school. PS&S would need to validate and refine the NJSDA design performance standards and deliver this new school on a fast-track basis ahead of schedule and within the tight budget (+/-$33.1 Million).

THE PS&S SOLUTION

For this new 133,000 square foot, 3-story school, PS&S completed full design and documentation working with and refining the SDA prototype standards. Floor plans were refined to meet New Jersey Department of Education room size limitations and receive DOE Final Educational Adequacy without delay to the schedule. The new A. Chester Redshaw Elementary School has been designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The project was designed and constructed in less than 24 months, and turned over to the school district many months ahead of the original client schedule.
