THE OPPORTUNITY
To create a master plan to repurpose an existing vivarium facility that would allow subcontracted parties to use area for research purposes.
THE CHALLENGE
To create environments for appropriate animal species that required separate spaces.
THE PS&S SOLUTION
PS&S prepared a facility assessment study for Confidential Client. The study involved canine and small rodent housing along with the required wash, storage and support spaces. The study focused on the buildings infrastructure and the ability to maximize the occupancy. A review of the facility covered HVAC systems, sewer systems, water supply, automated watering systems, finishes and emergency power.
Two alternate designs were developed to maximize either rodents or canine. Evaluation discussed the pros and cons of kennels vs. cages along with required enrichment space. Storage of materials and separated loading docks were discussed for issues regarding AAALAC.
