CLIENT: BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP

MARKET SECTOR: PUBLIC

PS&S provided site civil engineering design services for the reconstruction of various road sections in Bridgewater Township, NJ, including:  Foothill Road, Phase I, Mountaintop Road, Phase II and Mountaintop Road, Phase III.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Foothill Road, aptly named, is located at the base of the First Watchung Mountain and Mountaintop Road, also appropriately, named is located at the top of the First Watchung Mountain. Both roads are  fairly well traveled and are narrow, curvy arterial roadways. Pavement surfaces were rough, alligatored, with pot holes. The opportunity was to provide designs that would improve these roads to acceptable standards.

THE CHALLENGE

Each roadway was approximately 20 feet wide with little or no storm drainage facilities.

THE PS&S SOLUTION

In order to address the above issues, PS&S widened each road to 22 feet to provide drainage improvements designed to accommodate a 10 year frequency storm. Overall, PS&S  provided a complete field survey of existing conditions, base mapping, and interfaced with the Bridgewater Engineering Department for design reviews. PS&S also provided complete construction documents for road widening, drainage design and milling and paving. Other services included construction observation, project accounting and project closeout. All projects were completed on time and within budget.
