The New York Governor’s Office through the New State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has established a contract for widening of the Van Wyck Expressway from the Kew Gardens Interchange to JFK Airport by adding a fourth lane in each direction to reduce congestion and delays. WSP USA, Inc. was awarded the contract as Prime Consultant.

PS&S professionals were contracted by WSP USA Inc. to provide professional surveying services for preparation of base mapping to aid design efforts. The limits of the survey were from Federal Circle to Queens Boulevard, a distance of approximately 4.3 miles.

PS&S professionals established 8 Primary Survey control points using static GPS readings. A GPS network was designed in accordance with the NYSDOT standards and procedures manual. Each of the 8 stations was occupied a minimum of twice. NYS CORS GPS receivers were incorporated into the network.
