THE OPPORTUNITY

PS&S worked with the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) to generate a beneficial reuse of a brownfields site.

The MCIA sought to develop a minor league baseball stadium in the city of Trenton along the Delaware River at the site of the former Roebling Steel manufacturing facility.

THE CHALLENGE

The proposed stadium location was a brownfields site with extensive concrete foundations still in place and a limited area of land between the Delaware River and State Highway Route 29. Formulating a design that conformed to both league standards and NJDEP guidelines for Brownfields closure greatly impacted the options on the utilization of the site.

THE PS&S SOLUTION

PS&S worked with the NJDEP, NJDOT, and MCIA to develop a closure plan that incorporated a natural turf field, all site design, and compliance with ISRA regulations for remedial activities compliance.  The field has been noted as being one of the best playing surfaces in the league; additionally, the overall redevelopment project won the National Phoenix Award for Brownfields Redevelopment.
