| Dear Friends of PS&S:
As we head into the summer months, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an energizing and productive spring at PS&S. Our teams continue to push the envelope—driven by talent, collaboration, and a commitment to innovation that defines who we are.
One standout moment this quarter was our partnership with three outstanding graduate students from Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. Through their Capstone Project, they helped us explore the potential of AI within our business operations. Their fresh perspectives and technical insight are already influencing how we think about efficiency, creativity, and client service.
We’re also proud to celebrate the recognition of one of our own—Renard E. Barnes, Esq., our General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer, was honored with the NJIT Newark College of Engineering Spirit Award. This award reflects not only Renard’s leadership within PS&S but also his broader impact on the engineering community. We’re fortunate to have him on our team-Congratulations Renard!
Equally inspiring was our Take Your Children to Work Day. It was a joy to welcome students into our offices and give them a hands-on introduction to the exciting world of design, technology, and problem-solving. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a memorable day.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum. New projects, new partnerships, and new ideas are on the horizon. I’m deeply grateful to our clients and partners—your trust makes everything we do possible. We’re proud to serve you and eager to keep moving forward, together. Thank you for being part of the PS&S community. |
John A. Sartor, PE President & Chief Executive Officer |
Three talented graduate students from Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering recently partnered with PS&S as part of their Capstone Project, bringing their expertise and forward-thinking approach to support our growing artificial intelligence initiatives. This collaboration marks a key step in our long-term strategy to harness data-driven insights and enhance operational efficiency across our disciplines. Over the course of the semester, the students developed three distinct Proofs of Concept (POCs), each focused on a different dataset and business function within PS&S. These POCs explored opportunities for: - Querying timesheet comments from the past 5 years to have the AI system pull the top ten projects that match the query.
-
Querying our project write up sheets to have it pull the top ten matches.
- Using the results from POC 2, we can pull other project related information such as revenue, and the current employees that worked on the project. Then it will pull the resumes of those employees for inclusion in a new proposal.
These processes will enhance our internal decision-making and automate routine processes. Their work not only delivered immediate insights but also laid the groundwork for long-term data strategy and integration.
As we head into the summer, our internal team is already exploring how to adapt and scale these POCs for real-time business use. We’re excited about the possibilities ahead and deeply grateful for the hard work and creativity of this team. Their contribution reflects the power of academic-industry collaboration and our continued investment in innovation.
Stay tuned as we share more on how these tools are being applied throughout the year. |

Renard E. Barnes, Esq., General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer at PS&S, who was honored with the prestigious Newark College of Engineering (NCE) Spirit Award at the 27th Annual Salute to Engineering Excellence, held on April 10, 2025, at The Albion Summit Hotel in Summit, NJ.

Employee Fun: Take Your Child to Work Day |
On April 25, 2025, our offices were filled with big imaginations and even bigger smiles as we welcomed the next generation of innovators for Take Your Children to Work Day!
From designing custom birdhouses (complete with “architectural flair”) to building mini roller coasters that defied gravity—and, occasionally, structural logic—it was a day full of creativity and curiosity. The kids also went on an office-wide scavenger hunt, searching high and low for hidden engineering clues and sweet surprises along the way.
A huge thank you to all our employees who made the day so special. Whether they were guiding future engineers, handing out hard hats, or simply joining in the fun, they helped show what PS&S is really about: innovation, teamwork, and a little bit of childhood wonder. We can’t wait to see what these future leaders dream up next! |
