THE OPPORTUNITY

Jersey City sought to re-establish Montgomery Street at Exchange Place as a prime development location utilizing the Path Station and the excellent views of the lower Manhattan skyline.  Development of a park to attract people back to the waterfront was one of the key components to establish this goal. This was one of the first elements of the renaissance of Jersey City’s waterfront.

THE CHALLENGE

Permitting of a new pier in the Hudson River in close proximity to the path tunnel required extensive NJDEP and ACOE permitting as well as careful structural analysis of the pile placement to ensure no impacts to the existing path tunnel structure.

THE PS&S SOLUTION

PS&S provided all engineering design and obtained all requisite approvals while functioning as Jersey City’s full-time site representative during construction of the 380-foot-long by 210-foot-wide L-shaped passive park on the pier structure.
